Best Veg Restaurants in London

What is Vegetarian Food?

A person who does not eat meat, someone whose diet consists wholly of vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, and sometimes eggs or dairy products, etc.

Here we will discuss some Best Veg Restaurants in London.

Granger And Co

The late Australian food icon Bill Granger opened his first place in Sydney in 1993. His legendary breakfasts were an instant hit, and now, his restaurants can be found in London, Seoul, and Tokyo. Granger perfected the fresh, healthy, veg-forward Aussie fare that Londoners now line up for (prepare to wait if you show up at peak brunch hours). Vegetarians will be very comfortable here, with a large dedicated menu offering coconut curry, miso tofu, and turmeric Daal.

Hopper’s veg restaurants in London

Everyone leaves Hopper’s happy: vegans, carnivores, pescatarians, intermittent fasters – you name the diet, Hopper’s will feed them. Karan Gokani opened his first London outpost back in 2015, putting Sri Lankan food on the map of London’s restaurant scene in a big way. Now, locals and tourists alike flock to the Marylebone, Soho, and King’s Cross locations, which are inspired by Sri Lanka’s village toddy shops. Vegetarians have an incredible array to choose from here, where jackfruit cutlets, devilled paneer, and aubergine kari are hits for diners of all persuasions.

Bibi’s veg restaurants in London

If you’re scrounging around the streets of central London during your lunch break, Bibi’s is the closest thing you’ll find to a home-cooked meal. These cosy, tiny stores in Soho, Covent Garden, and Angel are the brainchild of Turkish chef Bibi Yapici. The system here is strict but efficient: four salads are on offer each day, usually big, bright mixtures of spiced carrots, bulgar wheat, couscous, and the like. These can always be topped up with homemade hummus, avocado, halloumi, and falafel — until supplies run out. Lunchtime queues at Bibi’s can be epic, so arrive early if you’re picky (which you needn’t be here – everything on offer is incredibly fresh and well-balanced).

Mallow veg restaurants in London

Mallow — named after an entirely edible British plant — is owned by the team behind Mildreds, a vegetarian haven in Soho since 1988. The Borough Market spot has chef Sarah Wesserman at the helm and takes the same 100% plant-based approach as Mildreds, but with a more upscale feel. Mallow’s menu takes an expansive, creative approach to what it means to dine meat-free, with dishes like a beetroot tempeh smash burger, pimento bulgur chorizo, and tomato samphire ceviche. A second location in Canary Wharf is set to open this summer.

Berber & Q

Berber & Q, tucked under the railway arches in Haggerston, is known for its barbecue. But meat is not the only thing getting grilled here. Aubergine, beets, and cauliflower are all thrown over the open fire, infused with Mediterranean and North African spices (think harissa, saffron, and fermented chilli). A mezze-style meal is complete with Berber’s class hummus and burnt baba ghanoush dips.

Govinda’s

Govinda’s sits below the Radha-Krishna Temple in Soho and is one of the capital’s oldest vegetarian eateries. It serves a traditional thali-style menu that’s entirely meat-free, based on grains, vegetables, and lentils. The menu here — very affordable for the area — is entirely meat-free, with options for vegans. You can mix and match snacks and thali items like paneer tikka and punjabi samosa on your tray.

The Good Egg

What started life as a street-food stall that served shakshuka has grown into three Middle Eastern spots in London — one restaurant in Soho and another, plus a deli, in Stoke Newington. The menu is inspired by Tel Aviv’s street food stalls, but also by Jewish delis, and bagel bakeries in New York and Montreal. The result is an inimitable mish-mash of flavours and seriously good sandwiches. And while the menu is not totally vegetarian, the vegetarian options are excellent.

Mildreds

A Soho stalwart for nearly three decades, Mildreds has long been one of London’s most popular vegetarian institutions. And for good reason. It serves up seasonal produce in robust, flavourful dishes alongside an impressive selection of organic wines and beers – all in a relaxed but buzzy atmosphere. They now have locations in Camden, Dalston, Covent Garden, and King’s Cross.

Rovi

While Rovi isn’t strictly vegetarian, vegetables do unashamedly take pride of place on the menu. The offering changes with the seasons, but you can expect Middle Eastern-inspired dishes of the calibre that’s become synonymous with the Ottolenghi name.
